One of the most intriguing aspects of William Lim's work was the exploration of the symbiotic relationship between his roles as an architect and an artist. The exhibition provided a glimpse into how his rational thinking and emotional expression coalesce. This fusion was evident in each painting, creating a harmonious balance between intellectual depth and evocative artistry. William Lim seamlessly integrates his passion for architecture and art in his captivating works. His paintings serve as a personal expression of space and layers, drawing from his architectural training to communicate ideas and evoke a distinct emotional connection. By incorporating architectural forms such as arches and interior spaces into his landscape depictions, Lim brings a unique perspective to his artistic creations.
“I hope that people will not split me between the two, they may just be discovering a side of me that they didn’t know before.”
Lim's artistic journey is characterised by constant exploration and a desire to push boundaries. Drawing from his study of photography at Cornell, he seeks to uncover the hidden nuances within colours, delving into the darkest purples or the brightest pinks to reveal the intricate layers of hues. By experimenting with the blending of complementary or contradictory colours, applied with a paint knife in thick layers, he unveils surprising combinations and textures on the canvas. This exploration of colour and technique adds depth and complexity to his artworks, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the richness and subtleties of his creations.
