Born in 1986, the Osaka-based artist Keita Shirayama grew up in Asago City, a remote area surrounded by mountains and forests in the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan's Kansai region. At Woaw Gallery in Hong Kong in March, the artist debuted his first solo exhibition, "Everyday," featuring semiabstract oil paintings. In these works, Shirayama constructs a world of his own, reimagining his childhood memories from Japan through symbols like blooming flowers, greenery, animals, and even skulls.
