Scottish artist Alexander Guy is showcasing a selection of his recent and older oil paintings for his first solo exhibition in the city. Inspired by everyday situations and objects, the nine paintings are post-pandemic visual records of Guy’s time in Glasgow, as well as a reflection of the excesses of consumerism. Rendered in bold colours and eye-catching close-ups, Guy has captured rising prices in the cost-of-living crisis to excessive packaging in supermarkets – in an almost claustrophobic way that reflects public anxiety and paranoia.
