Born in 1987 in Ottawa, Canda, New York based artist Dominique Fung’s art centres on an exploration of the historical fetishisation and exoticisation of Asian women. Her work often blends influences from traditional Chinese ceramic with a rich, vividly coloured visual language. Luscious and inviting, her works nonetheless subvert the colonial Orientalist gaze that has dominated Western depictions of Asia. Access to a Place, depicting a porcelain vase, draws viewers in through its saturated, sensuous tones — translated through Fung’s unique vision.
