Floris Van Look (b. 1990, Wilrijk, Belgium) majored in psychology and became an artist as a second major. He received the most systematic education of art in Antwerp. He understands that imagination has been overlooked but crucial as the most powerful force in one’s mind. The playful and joyful look of his works reinforce the shapes and sculptural image jumping out of the canvas.
Van Look takes on the most cliché-woven medium, oil on canvas, by combining traditional painting with cartoony techniques. The pursuit of uniting exagerrated quantities of oil paint with volumes could take on interesting forms. His straightforward, thick and rather slow painting style may provide an answer for our loud-advertising, fast-swiping, opinion-swarming way of living.
