Caroline Zurmely (b. 1994) graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2017 with a BFA in painting. Currently, she is based in Dallas, TX. Her recent projects have focused on fashion, feminine beauty products and the accoutrements of modern celebrity. Her work has been exhibited in Los Angeles,New Yorkand London. Zurmely’s art is often driven by material, texture, process and color. Recent series have focused on nail polish enamel relief paintings. Her work with nail polish is inspired by tabloid/magazine photography and aims to create a sense of intimacy and obscurity through offbeat close-ups. Utilizing unconventional materials and working within the restrictions they place on her art, Zurmely hopes to initially perplex the viewer and drive them towards deeper consideration of the techniques and mediums she applied to her pieces.
