Peter Shire (b.1947, Los Angeles, CA, USA) is a ceramic artist and furniture designer associated with the Milan-based Memphis Group. Since the 1970s he has produced an ongoing series of more than 500 portraits on clay slabs and ceramic glazes and has completed several public commissions including sculptures and tile murals. He studied ceramics at the Chouinard Art Institute before starting his own studio in 1972. His work is held in several museum collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. The 2020 book Towers with Ranch Dressing explores the artist’s legacy.
