WOAW Gallery’s presentation at ART SG, which coincides with the opening of its first gallery in Singapore, brings together four acclaimed contemporary artists from its gallery roster: Charlie Roberts (b. 1983, Kansas), Drew Englander (b. 1985, California), James Goss (b. 1956, Maryland) and Jon Burgerman (b. 1979, United Kingdom).
Embracing the spectrum of artistic styles, these artists each represent fresh and radical visions that document a unique time in contemporary human history. Their unconventional practices reveal the richness and dynamism of the human consciousness, effortlessly switching between pop culture, nature, technology, sports, entertainment, art history and domestic mundanity to reframe the collective experience of a post-pandemic world with a wry, surreal wit. Casting aside tired artistic tropes, these artists each conjure up boundless realms of possibilities and contradictions, from the dizzying symbolist paintings of Charlie Roberts, to the warped hyperreal worlds of Drew Englander. James Goss meditates on the metaphysical depths of nature, whilst Jon Burgerman explores the anxieties of the modern condition with acid-bright joy and humour.
